Maybe the next time you visit London you’ll wonder what has changed and what has remained the same in the old city. Next you’ll find yourself taking a cab and finding the answer: it will still be the same black cab, only based on hydrogen fuel cells.

This is part of the mayor’s agenda to have cleaner cars on the streets of London, and he’s also very proud of the outcome: “These prototype zero-emission taxis are a shining example of British ingenuity, combining revolutionary fuel cell technology with an iconic design classic” says Boris Johnson. The cabs are produced by a company specialized in clean power systems.

Of course, you’re wondering if a cab like that could get you in time for an urgent appointment you may have. The answer is yes, it will! Tests undergone before releasing the cabs on the busy streets of London have complied 8,000 miles on roads, including rush hour traffic.

The new fuel cell-powered black cabs can go up to 250 miles without taking too long to refuel and will reach an 81 mph. Acceleration from 0 to 60 in done in 14 seconds. So they’re good to go! Even though this may not be the cab of your dreams, i’s worth a try if you want to make a change for the better!
