Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk certainly has his fingers in a lot of pies, so where is he going to find as the UK’s new advisor to push for electric vehicle adoption?

Tesla Motors is the most successful automobile manufacturer startup, of any kind, in the last fifty years, and it’s no wonder that it has also become the most successful electric vehicle manufacturer in the world. In spite of the fact that it only produces one model, and not in volumes of the major automakers of the world, it has become one of the most valuable automakers in the world. Tesla Motors’ CEO, Elon Musk, has been the sole driving force behind the success of the company, not to mention the other matters he’s deeply involved in, including SpaceX, SolarCity, and the Musk Foundation.

As such, Time Magazine named Elon Musk one of the Top 100 Most Influential People, and it seems that the UK plans on making use of some of that influence. UK Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has appointed Elon Musk as an advisor to the UK’s efforts to produce and adopt plug-in vehicles. Clegg has called on the UK to become a “global leader in the production and adoption” of low-carbon vehicles, especially plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles, saying that Advisor Elon Musk will “consider how we can boost investment, massively increase the take up of electric vehicles… and promote the benefits of ultra-low-emissions vehicles.”

The UK has already made great strides forward, already earmarking some $641 million for electric vehicle charging stations and other research, as well as an additional $810 million set aside for the same by 2020. Some in UK positions of power have even proposed banning non-hybrid vehicles! Elon Musk’s new position as advisor to the UK will surely be taxing, but could give the UK the boost it needs. I’m sure Tesla Motors won’t suffer from the arrangement, either.
