Apple Inc. new Environmental Responsibility Report doesn’t mince words. Unlike many governments around the world this corporation states the debate about whether climate change exists is over.
“We don’t want to debate climate change. We want to stop it,” the report states. Apple is a big advocate of renewable energy and is willing to put its money where its mouth is. Using a mix of sources such as solar, wind, micro-hyrdo, biogas and geothermals 100% of its US operations and 87% percent of its operations world wide are currently powered by renewable energy.
The report also acknowledges that manufacturing Apple devices creates a big environmental impact. According to Apple they are committed to “see(ing) the same progress in our suppliers’ use of clean energy that we’ve seen in our own (facilities)”
Apple joins other large corporations in demanding and acting on climate change. Previously Google and Microsoft have slammed government inaction over the issue and have taken steps to reduce their carbon footprints.
These companies have also publicly feuded with the nonprofit conservative organization the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), who’s job is to “draft and share model state-level legislation for distribution among state governments in the United States”. ALEC is been actively trying to shut down bills acting on climate change. ALEC claims that climate change is a “historical phenomenon”.
Google CEO Eric Schmidt stated that ALEC of “literally lying about climate change.”
With big companies putting their big money behind renewable energy conservative organizations risk getting left behind in the literal dinosaur age. And that is all good news for our planet.
