Some have poo-pooed Tesla Motors for being expensive and, between $50,000 and $90,000, the Tesla Model S is out of reach of many of the driving public. The reason for the expense, of course, is electric-drive technology.
True, Tesla Motors is still in its infancy but electric drive technology specifically is at the heart of the beast, and any automaker getting into electric vehicles is going to encounter the problem, until the technology improves and prices drop.

Of course, the Benz overshadows the Model S, not only in price, but in performance as well. Utilizing four electric motors with a top output of 740hp and 738ft•lb of torque, resulting in a 0-60mph time of just 3.9sec. Such performance is staggering, considering the car weighs some 4,600lbs [1,200 of which is battery packs].
