Looking at Tesla’s Gigafactory Through a Drone’s Eyes

I feel a bit like a child getting up at 4am to have a sneaky look at the presents under the Christmas tree – Emory Peterson used his brand new drone to fly over the new Tesla Gigafactory, currently under construction in Nevada.

The Nevada local captured our first real glimpse of the factory and, as expected, it is huge. However this is just the first stage of the Gigafactory; Elon Musk said in a Tweet ““This is not the full Gigafactory, it is just the pilot plant (1/4 size).” The finished factory will cover hundreds of acres and be among the largest factories in the world.

Usually that type of statement makes the greenie in me cringe but this is a Musk project and as such the entire factory will be run solely on renewable energy sources (you see why we are huge fans of Musk!). The roof of the full factory will have a staggering 10 million square feet of solar panels and also be powered by a nearby windfarm and geothermal plant.
