One such innovatory solution comes from the University of Illinois in the form of tiny carbon spheres embedded with iron nanoparticles, to make more efficient catalysts and filters.

"Every second we pump air into our houses that is too hot, too cold or too moist. And then we spend billions of kilowatts treating that air; cooling it, heating it or dehumidifying it. If we could clean the air, we could recycle air that already has the perfect temperature," explains Matthew Johnson, a professor at the University of Copenhagen, who invented "CleanAir", the device that acts like an all-in-one dehumidifier, cooler, heater, and cleaner.
