As reported by the site Planetsave.com, the tugboat has been tested at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Moreover, the researchers at the UC Riverside College of Engineering Center for Environmental Research and Technology (CE-CERT) showed that the clean energy boat brought down soot emissions by about 73%, nitrogen oxides (NOx) by 51%, and carbon dioxide by 27%.
Although tugboats are not a major source of greenhouse gas emissions, it would be a real boon for the climate if their emissions were cut. Additionally, this technological innovation could lead to a change for the better by applying it at a larger scaled boats and vessels.
The study can be accessed online at the California Environmental Protection Agency’s website, by anyone interested in the in-depth analysis.
