New York's Flywheel Grid Regulation System Goes Online July 12

New York's 20-megawatt flywheel energy storage system is about to go online later this month, to provide extra bursts of electricity for stabilizing the grid. Beacon Power, the project contractor, says it built the world's largest energy storage in Stephentown, N.Y.. They'll even host a ceremony at the official launch date, July 12.

New California Assembly Bill May Benefit Clean Energy Storage Manufacturers

The California Assembly has just proposed a new bill that would impose utilities to have incorporated energy storage equipment that can store 2.25% of daytime peak demand by 2014 and 5% of peak demand by 2020.

Pentadyne Seeks Funding for Using Flywheels in Railway System to Save Power

Beacon Power's flywheels will spin at up to 16,000 rpm, and will be powered by the excess energy produced at night or at times when power consumption is not so big. The numbers are also impressive: the entire array will be able to store about 10% (20 MW) of New York's energy needs.
