Scrap Tires and Concrete Transformed Into Ecological Building Blocks

Concrete is one of the best materials the world has ever seen – you can see it everywhere. The problem is that when you want to dispose it, you suddenly have a problem – a big one. The same story goes with scrap tires – once used, they can hardly be dispensed of, or, in the best of cases – recycled.
PMGI/Productive Recycling is a company that proposes a to recycle scrap tires and scrap concrete at the same time. If you remember Dennis Weaver’s Earthship – the concrete and tire-based house that he built for living – that’s something PMGI is trying to do. They even have a pending patent of the technology that compresses waste tires and concrete into building blocks.
They call their product “T-Blocks”. T-Blocks can be used in landscaping, wetlands reconstruction, erosion control, and other projects related to natural stormwater and wastewater control.
According to the EPA, approximately 190 million scrap tires are being dumped and burned yearly, and only 35 million are recycled.
