The next time you do a search on Google after July 30, remember that they are buying energy from North America’s largest wind power provider, NextEra Energy Resources, LLC. The search magnate will purchase 114 MW of clean energy within a 20-year contract.
“We are thrilled to welcome Google Energy to our growing list of customers and appreciate their support of emission-free, renewable energy,” said Mike O’Sullivan, senior vice president of development for NextEra Energy Resources. “With the support of customers like Google Energy, we’ve built our wind fleet from fewer than 500 megawatts a decade ago to more than 7,600 megawatts — the largest fleet in North America today.”
NextEra Energy Resources started its 150 MW Story II Wind Energy center in December 2009. The remaining 36 MW will be sold to the city of Ames, Iowa. Having more than 9,000 turbines operating in 77 wind farms in 17 U.S. states and Canada, NextEra Energy Resources is a promising company that, according to EPA’s carbon equivalency calculator, spared almost 14 million tons of carbon dioxide, the equivalent of removing 2.4 million cars from the roads.
Google announced a long time ago that they will support alternative energy and, besides their main business, will also help this sector develop. A 20-year contract is just perfect for the lucky wind power company.
