google wind power 300x251 Google Signs 20 Year Contract With Major U.S. Wind Power ProviderThe next time you do a search on Google after July 30, remember that they are buying energy from North America’s largest wind power provider, NextEra Energy Resources, LLC. The search magnate will purchase 114 MW of clean energy within a 20-year contract.

“We are thrilled to welcome Google Energy to our growing list of customers and appreciate their support of emission-free, renewable energy,” said Mike O’Sullivan, senior vice president of development for NextEra Energy Resources. “With the support of customers like Google Energy, we’ve built our wind fleet from fewer than 500 megawatts a decade ago to more than 7,600 megawatts — the largest fleet in North America today.”

NextEra Energy Resources started its 150 MW Story II Wind Energy center in December 2009. The remaining 36 MW will be sold to the city of Ames, Iowa. Having more than 9,000 turbines operating in 77 wind farms in 17 U.S. states and Canada, NextEra Energy Resources is a promising company that, according to EPA’s carbon equivalency calculator, spared almost 14 million tons of carbon dioxide, the equivalent of removing 2.4 million cars from the roads.

Google announced a long time ago that they will support alternative energy and, besides their main business, will also help this sector develop. A 20-year contract is just perfect for the lucky wind power company.

First Solar Signs Agreements With Major Energy Utilities to Provide Solar Power

First Solar Inc. has recently announced that it will start working on a huge photovoltaic project called Desert Sunlight in Southern California. The facility will produce 550 MW from solar power, of which 300 MW will be sold to California’s Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) and 250 MW to Southern California Edison (SCE).

North Carolina to Have 100% of Its Power Coming from Off-Shore Wind Turbines

According to a new study made by the University of North Carolina (UNC), the North Carolina state could have 100% of its power coming from off-shore wind turbines. The company Duke Energy wants to make North Carolina “the first state to generate wind power from in-water turbines”, by building three pilot off-shore wind turbines in [...]

Huge Offshore Wind Turbines to Power British Homes

The 500ft-tall turbine has a diameter of 475ft and, according to the company, it is prepared to be launched within the next two years. The giant blades of this turbine are expected to produce enough electricity to power 10,000 homes.

Wind Energizer: 150% Power Boost by Simple Wind Turbine Addon

Until now, in order to make more powerful wind turbines, you had to make longer blades, so they could capture more incoming air and transform it into mechanical work. Leviathan Energy, led by dr. Daniel Farb, has refreshed this approach towards increased efficiency not by increasing the blades, but by making the wind hit them differently.

New Wind Turbine Generator Gets 57% More Power

Wind power is one of the cheapest forms of energy available to us, because it mainly depends on wind’s speed, and it works 24/7, with no dependence on the moment of the day. A new company called ExRo Technology, based in Vancouver, BC, wants to commercially develop a new type of generator to be used in wind turbines all over the world. The interesting fact is that this new generator can increase the electricity output by 50%.
