Low-Emission Tribrid Scooter Powered by Solar Energy

A group of students at the Canara Engineering College built a low-emission tribrid scooter that is powered by solar energy, being equipped with onboard photovoltaic panels.

Dubbed V-Spark 3, the tribrid moped (a hybrid vehicle that obtains additional energy from the ambient environment like windmill solar panels or sail) runs on conventional fuel as well as on electricity. The energy consumed during electric mode is replenished by the solar panels.

Based on the concept of a parallel hybrid system, the scooter includes a single speedometer and accelerator for both electrical and mechanical transmissions. In case one of the two engines fails, the other one acts as a back-up, keeping the moped moving.
