If there is one thing that might stand above all else when considering an electric vehicle [EV], on top of range and recharging concerns, it must be cost. The battery technology in an EV doesn’t come cheap, and this raises the costs associated with buying an EV.

Don’t forget to add the home charging station into the bill as well. We’ve just heard of a deal that almost sounds too good to be true on the $30,125 Mitsubishi i-MiEV coming out of Illinois.

O’Brien Mitsubishi in Normal, IL, is trying to get the i-MiEV out on the road where it belongs, and starting January 1, began running a 24-month lease promotion that is far lower than the official Mitsubishi lease program.

In the Fall of 2012, the Mitsubishi 36-month lease program was $249/mo, but O’Brien Mitsubishi has already leased better than a dozen i-MiEV at their promotional price as low as $69/mo for 24 months.

This is less than the basic mobile-phone plan, with two phones and no data plan, that my wife and I pay each month, and we don’t have a car to show for it. Granted, you can only get the $69/mo pricing if you put down tax, title, and registration up front, which might come to $2,100.

If you opt for the no-money-down option, the Mitsubishi i-MiEV lease will cost you $169/mo. Still, for an EV lease plan, I’ve seen nothing like it!
