Honda CR-Z Hybrid Getting Second Place of 25-Hour Endurance Race

It's a known fact that endurance tests are the ones that made a difference in the engine history, because those who did it at LeMans did it on the streets, in terms of reliability and life time. Honda CR-Z hybrid has competed in one such endurance racing, and even got a prize.

New Polymer Solar Cell Coating Technology Yields 20% Increase In Efficiency

A new solar cell manufacturing technology that uses a thin and uniform light-absorbing layer has been developed by Iowa State University and Ames Laboratory researchers. The thin layer is to be deposited on textured substrates and has been proved to increase the efficiency of polymer solar cells.

Netherlands' First Public Hydrogen Fueling Station Officially Opened

The gas station also has a small-scale factory for converting the gas into hydrogen, which is stored in compressed form. The hydrogen fuel is fed through a special hose, just like ordinary LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) and then converted in energy by means of fuel cell technology in the cars.

China's Ambitious Plan To Increase Renewable Energy To 500 GW By 2020

China has published an astonishing and ambitious plan for renewable energy increase for the next 10 years. The plan is to get not less than 500 GW of clean energy on the grid by 2020.

Wise or Not: The U.N. Suggesting Rapid Replacement Of Incandescent Bulbs With CFLs

I had heard that the European Union wants to prohibit the production of incandescent lighting bulbs, but I never thought that would be possible in a short time. Frankly, on the one hand I'd be glad for the huge carbon savings this measure would give, but on the other the CFLs are not yet widely accepted by the eye, their light being much colder and giving your home an office-like feeling.

Spanish Wind Power Companies Join Efforts For Building 15 MW Wind Turbine

Gamesa, Iberdrola and Acciona are some of the Spanish companies that have strengthened their positions on the global wind market. Last week, Spain announced a project that will secure its role as the front runner in the renewable energy sector.

Cri-Cri Electric Ultra-Light Aircraft Breaks Old Speed Record

A new speed record of 162 mph was established by a French pilot with his twin-motor, electric powered Cri-Cri, exceeding the previous record of 155 mph set by an Italian team in 2009. The electric aircraft used 35-horsepower motors made by Electravia. These were set in place with custom propellers designed especially for the flight. The speed record was achieved using only 75% power.

Wing Waves: Harvesting Wave Power By Swinging Beneath The Surface

A wave power test plant has been deployed on Nov. 17 two miles offshore of Fort Pierce, Fla., and is now being tested by its designers, researchers from Florida Institute of Technology's College of Engineering. The power plant has been named "Wing Waves," and works by harvesting the elliptical motion of waves 30 to 60 feet deep, and converting it into electricity.

Thousands of U.S.-Based Jobs In The Solar Energy Industry Will Be Created in 2011

The Solar Foundation, a nonprofit organization, has good news for whoever is looking for a job career in the clean energy industry, reporting that thousands of solar jobs will be created in 2011. The fact is based on a census of American workers estimating a number of 24,000 positions to be available in the year to come.

Solyndra Installing The Largest Solar Panel System in France

The Californian branch of Solyndra, based in Fremont, has recently finished the latest solar panels installation on a warehouse rooftop near Toulouse, France. The largest system of Solyndra in France consists of more than 7,080 in-house made panels, and will generate around 1,360 MWh a year.
