Oman-Based Company to Develop All-Electric Vehicle Capable of 2,236 Miles / Charge

Currently, electric vehicles such as the Nissan Leaf and Tesla Roadster do need some improvement in terms of operating range and speed. In the meanwhile, a company from Oman says it will soon build an electric car that goes 2,236 miles on a single charge.

The chief executive officer of Noor Majan, sultan bin Hamad al-Amri, offered no explanation when we might see this wonder vehicle or how the unnamed car will achieve such stupendous range. The only thing he said is the car would be equipped with an 800-horsepower electric motor. “The parts of the car, including the 800-horsepower engine, are manufactured in Japan, America, Germany and Hong Kong,” he said.

According to Hamad, the vehicle will have a range of 3,600 kilometers and will cost between $70,000 and $921,000, going from 0 to 60 mph in just 4 seconds (judging by the fact that Tesla Roadster has a better acceleration, this only means the car will have a lot a batteries and a lot of weight) . It will also have an air conditioner powered by solar energy. Various government ministries have already send to Al-Amri the preliminary approval to build the car.

It’s very hard to explain how this car will reach that performance because until now only the Tesla Roadster is capable of 245 miles (claimed), having the best range of any EV and to do this it is equipped with the biggest battery.

“An incredibly good electric vehicle would require 0.1 kWh per mile (the Nissan Leaf requires over 0.2 kWh per mile) and would need a battery of at least 225 kWh. So driving over 2,000 miles would mean a battery ten to twenty times larger than the one in the Leaf. If there is a battery with this much energy that could actually fit in a car it would be the revolution of the century. I’ll avoid holding my breath.” said research director of the clean vehicles program at the Union. “Honestly, the claims sound like something you might read in the satirical newspaper the Onion,” he added.
