Paris Motor Show 2010: BMW's Vision EfficientDynamics Plug-in Hybrid Concept

It’s a funny thing I didn’t give a proper credit to BMW’s Vision Efficientdynamics concept at this year’s Paris Motor Show. Actually, BMW did a nice thing with its plug-in hybrid that was first presented last year at the Frankfurt Auto Show. It has an acceleration equal to an M3 and a fuel consumption that’s worth the envy of other manufacturers, comparable to Toyota’s Prius.

Given all these, the Vision is still a concept, though. It sports a 1.5L turbocharged 3-cylinder diesel engine  coupled with four electric motors, one on each wheel. The entire system outputs 356 horsepower, even if for a small time (until the 8.6 kWh batteries deplete).

No problem, though, because they’re going to get recharged from the diesel engine and you won’t be needing that much power for long in most of the cases, after all.

Maybe the concept isn’t going to get mass-produced, but the technology behind is surely going to occupy a place in BMW’s future releases. And since the car had been launched in 2009, the tech is just around the corner and we should expect next year’s auto show to feature some of the examples.
