Hydrogen Cars to Overtake Battery EVs

In the meantime that battery EV’s are less prioritized by automakers, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles may get ahead from them as the next big thing in alternative fuels. Toyota and Honda have announced their plans on mass market of hydrogen cars for the coming years.

Toyota Motor Corporation will be cutting down its efforts on developing pure EV’s and focus more on hybrid cars, in which they see a more continuous market growth.

The Chevy Volt, a plug-in hybrid vehicle by General Motors, has garnered much of the sales this year, in comparison with the Nissan Leaf, a pure EV by Nissan Motor Company Ltd., and other pure EV’s which have not performed well in the market.

For this reason, automakers are now looking for other opportunities in powering cars with alternative fuels. Toyota and Honda have already declared their plans to release mass market hydrogen cars by 2015.

Hyundai will be having their mass market hydrogen cars starting next month and will be producing 1,000 units of these by 2015 and 10,000 units more each year onwards. Other automakers are also taking the same path on car development.
