Luxury car maker Rolls-Royce is planning to unveil its first electric vehicle at the Geneva Motor Show on March 1. According to the UK-based company, the fully electric-powered car dubbed Phantom 102EX, will then go on a global tour taking in North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

“We have engineered the world’s first battery electric vehicle for the ultra-luxury segment. With this vehicle, we begin an exploration into alternative drive-trains, seeking clarity on which alternative technologies may be suitable to drive Rolls-Royce motor cars of the future,” said chief executive Torsten Muller-Otvos.

Rolls-Royce has no plans to to develop a production version yet. The company wants to find out how the car operates in extreme weather conditions and how long it can drive between re-charges.

“While there are no plans to develop a production version, as one of the company’s EX models it will serve to begin a dialogue with existing owners and stakeholders, posing as well as answering questions of its audience,” the company said.

Full details of the car’s specifications will be revealed after its official launch at the Geneva Motor Show. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is currently a division of German car company BMW and is no longer connected to aero engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce PLC.

  1. It would be funny if the gravity powered rolls rumors turn out to be true. You won’t find any physicist who dares look into that topic. The idea this is suppose to prove it is impossible wouldn’t work in forensics so why would we accept it a valid excuse for the physicists? Not looking equals not knowing. No jury would accept a guilty verdict of that kind.
