An estimated €3 trillion worth of fuel savings is projected to be achieved by year 2050 if the European Union (EU) continue on supporting green energy revolution targets as reported in the 2012 EU Energy [R]evolution report conducted for Greenpeace and the European Renewable Energy Council (EREC) by the German National Center for Aerospace, Energy, and Transport Research (DLR). Not only that, it is also deemed to bring nearly half a million new jobs to people by 2020.

In its legislation, EU has agreed to the three main environmental goals by 2020:

  • 20% carbon emission reduction,
  • 20% improvement in energy efficiency, and
  • 20% share for green energy sources.

However, before the aforementioned huge savings and additional jobs materialize, the report recommends EU to further agree on binding targets beyond 2020. The report emphasizes the steps on how to achieve an almost carbon-free energy state and strongly encourages a binding target of 45% renewable energy by 2030 and increase 2020’s targeted carbon reduction to 30%.

Moreover, an estimated €99 billion of investment is needed for this huge green energy revolutionary act, report says. A relatively large investment, but would bring not only profits amounting to 29.3 times the investment, but also protection and preservation of earth for the future generation, as well as  the living things in it from the smallest phytoplankton to the most intelligent species.

A lot of environmental supporters linger out there for EU to think twice on these propositions. This is a very huge plan for the earth and it’s already starting, and as the report says, “A continuation of the successful triple targets for 2030 will provide industry certainty, mobilize investment in renewable and energy saving technologies and secure the necessary climate ambition.”
