nanolight-LEDThese days, when energy efficiency is the watch-word in purchasing electronics, it is even more evident when bulbs are the objects of such purchases. With the LED’s longevity and energy efficiency in reducing energy bills, it is no wonder they are so popular. That has led to Gimmy Chu, Christian Yan and Tom Rodinger’s creation – the NanoLight.

With the title of the most efficient bulb in the world, the NanoLight emits more than 1,600 lumens with just 12 watts power. Considering that there are other LED bulbs which emit similar lumens to that by conventional 20 to 60 watt bulbs, the NanoLight is the first to emit the same as a conventional 100 watt bulb.

Emitting omnidirectional light without a heat sink, it is estimated that the NanoLight is 87% more efficient compared to incandescent lights and drains 50% less energy compared to compact fluorescents.

The NanoLight creators from the University of Toronto are launching the product using a Kickstarter campaign. There are three models of the NanoLight, with the flagship being the 12 watt bulb which emits the equivalent of a conventional 100 watt bulb. It also costs a minimum $45 pledge, which should also cover its estimated 30-year lifespan.

Implementing surface mount technology, the pulp is produced from printed circuit boards shaped like conventional bulbs. The three models can be used in any geographic location with 120 V and 220 to 240 V versions available.

  1. The left hand illistrated is-alarming.Black isn’t the most mage choice for lighting efficeincy (fixture overall)-or heat rejection in this context. The clained luemuns per watt is very impressive. How  well does this output and the intensity(lumionous flux),stand up over time? Are simple resistor based current limiters used,or buzzy oscialator circiuts? Why doesn’t the link work?
