According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), carbon dioxide emissions are no different than any other pollutant they’ve set to regulate, but industry disagrees.

Climate change science has pinned human industrial processes as the key generator of greenhouse gas emissions, carbon dioxide, among others, the chief component. The EPA has targeted various industries to reduce their emissions, such as the light vehicle industry, for example. The EPA’s CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) regulations mandate that, by 2025, automobiles can emit no more than 163 grams per mile of carbon dioxide.

The light vehicle industry is, by no means, the only target of the EPA’s carbon dioxide reduction efforts. Industry and power plants are also huge emitters of carbon dioxide emissions. According to the EPA, 20% of the Nation’s carbon dioxide is generated by industry, 28% by the transportation sector, and 33% by power plants. EPA regulations would cut those emissions in half, but the power producers aren’t happy about it.

Industry is the next EPA target, and they’re forming a coalition to “educate” the public about the “true costs” of carbon dioxide emissions reduction efforts. The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), along with the US Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for 21st Century Energy, believes that reducing carbon dioxide will be too expensive.

NAM believes that President Obama’s carbon dioxide reduction plans shut reliable, and dirty, coal out of the picture, and will force industry to spend money on “more expensive” renewable energy and emissions-reduction technology. On the other hand, environmentalist groups think that Obama’s “all of the above” energy plan doesn’t encourage industry to adopt enough renewable energy.

Ridiculous! Addressing climate change by reducing carbon dioxide emissions, can only be a good thing, not only concerning our weather, food and water supply, among others, but also good for the bottom line! Renewable energy, even without incentives, is far cheaper than fossil fuels, and doesn’t pollute the environment. Renewable energy and carbon dioxide reduction measures actually create jobs and will improve the economy. Taking the easy way out, as NAM wants to do, and “educating” the public to that effect, will only make the situation worse in the long run.

  1. Hey don’t stop there we are all carbon based life forms, as a matter of fact so is every other life form on the planet. You can breath in but you cant breath out your polluting the planet. Don’t compost those grass clippings it gives off co2. As a matter of fact ALL decaying plant matter gives off co2. Trying to control co2 is a scam to give the government the ability to control anything and everything…..it’s all carbon people. So yeah do like congress did the other night stand up and clap when you are deemed no longer important in the decision making. Fools, you deserve what you get. No one denies climate change, that would be like saying water isn’t wet. The climate is always changing however the lie being told is that government regulations is some how going to change it back. HA! It’s a scam meant to funnel billions of dollars into the pockets of people who could careless about the climate. Sucker is born every minute.
