Sharp Unveils LED Devices With Better Luminous Efficiency

Sharp Corp has recently unveiled an LED device that has a luminous efficiency of 91 lumens/Watt with an input power of about 25W, being used for lighting purposes.

According to the company, the efficiency of this new type of LED device is the highest in the industry. The lamp also emits an incandescent color light and the general color rendering index (Ra) is 83.

Two models of the LED device are being developed: one has a color temperature of 2,700K and the other has a color temperature of 3,000K. In the future Sharp plans to produce models with a 15W power input.

The company claims it will start mass-producing the LED device on March 4, 2011, having a production rate of 100,000 units per month.

These devices will be used as spotlights.  The 15 and the 25W models will have a price around €2,000 and €3,000 (US$36), respectively.
