California based startup Spinlister wants to promote bicycle sharing, among other things.
Spinlister’s bike sharing concept is simple enough, you need a bike for a few hours or a few days, all you need to do is whip out the app, book and you’re pretty much good to go. For cyclists, it looks like bike heaven.
You can rent something simple as a cruiser or hybrid, or go for a classic green Bianchi, or a Specialized Tarmac road bike, or even take out a cargo bike for a sorta big move. The prices aren’t too bad, from a low of US$12-40 per day for the simpler bikes or US$30 to 100 for more specialized ones (cyclist’s pun intended).
The bike sharing company won’t attract as much attention from the authorities as have Uber and AirBNB, after all you don’t even need a driver’s license to ride a bike, much less a franchise. Also, if you’re worried about losing your bike if you rent it out, the company has you covered for up to US$10,000 for loss from theft or damage. That sounds great especially if your two wheeled ride is just gathering dust in the garage.
Also, if you’re like me who wants to feel the air in the town you’re visiting more than the one coming from the A/C’s vents, Spinlister is a great deal. Or if you’re bound for a more urban setting, the thought of weaving through traffic surely beats being stuck in it.
