Their new Golf Blue e-motion has been presented by Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, member of VW’s development board, and the German minister of transportation. They tested the new EV on the streets of Berlin.

“With the purely electric-powered version of Europe’s most successful cars of all time Volkswagen proposes another bridge in the era of electric vehicles. We will begin shortly with an e-Golf-fleet with customer trials. In 2013 the UP! will come with electric drive on the market and later Golf and Jetta will follow, “said Dr. Hackenberg at the event.

The EV that has just been presented features front wheel drive, 115 HP (85kW), and a nice torque of 270 Nm – all of these without emitting a single gram of CO2. The battery has a capacity of 26.5 kWh, which, in normal driving conditions, would last for about 150 km.

The German government plans to get around 1 million EVs on the market until 2020, which includes making both the cars and the infrastructure they’ll need.
