The European Union Proposes Electric Car F1 Championship

Have you ever thought you’d see the day when there will be an electric car Formula 1? Well, it looks as i’s about to happen. Don’t worry. I’s not an all-electric Formula 1 – yet! But the European Union Commission wants to see an electric car championship up and driving pretty soon.

More precisely, the EU wants to help organize an electric-car, a go-karts and a single-seater event that are supposed to become a permanent show.

The idea is to make the public more open and get it to be more interested in the trend of electric cars. Somehow, more and more people have become conscious about making more environmentally-friendly choices for their own sake.

The general impression is that electric and hybrid vehicles don’t have what it takes to be a “true” car, starting with speed. These new events, on the other hand, will try to do just that: show the public how fast electric cars can actually be, without harming the environment that much. That is what Antonio Tajani, the EU’s industry commissioner and Jean Todt, the president of the édération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) have set out to demonstrate to the public.

In an attempt to make new energy-cars more visible, the FIA has also added an electric-car commission unit to its organization, a unit under the supervision of Burkhard Goeschel, a former BMW director. The first time we might be seeing electric cars on the sets of Formula 1 could be in 2013, so you’d better get ready to be impressed!
