It’s been a while since Peugeot announced its 3008 Hybrid4, which we’ve also seen at The Paris Motor Show last year. Now, in a competition with Audi’s A4 Allroad, the French car manufacturer announces the launch of Pegeot 508 RXH diesel electric hybrid.
The new diesel hybrid will be first shown at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show in September. It will feature a 2.0-liter HDi diesel engine coupled with a 38 hp electric motor, which will transform it into a more-than-mild hybrid. Nevertheless, the Peugeot 508 RHX is announced to be a “through-the-road” hybrid, with its total of 200 horsepower and 322 pound-feet of torque – quite an impressive sum for a hybrid.
Consumption? About 4.2 liters per 100 kilometers (56 US MPG), which is normal for a small-sized diesel, but rather unusual for a diesel having the weight, size and power of the Peugeot 508 RXH. The electric motors makes itself sensed at this chapter. The reduced consumption also accounts for only 109 grams of CO2 emitted per kilometer (more than a 2009 Prius, but good enough).
To be able to compete with German cars, Peugeot has also engineered all kinds of automotive gadgets for its 508 RXH: heads-up display, navigation unit, a quality sound system and all the safety features a modern car should have.
What’s interesting in Peugeot’s marketing approach is that they’ve announced this car before showing it at the Frankfurt Motor Show, which tells the hurry that the automakers are in to get out on the market with new and more interesting models. Streets will only see the 508 RXH in 2012, though.
