What Do You Know About Electric Vehicles?

Electric vehicles, being a fairly new item on the market, may seem far too new and unusual for many people to consider them, but all that’s needed is a little education.

Really, the lack of electric vehicle education has stifled the adoption of electric vehicles all over the world. Interestingly, studies have shown that millions of people in the United States alone could switch to electric vehicles with almost no change to their daily driving habits.

For instance, the average American drives less than thirty miles per day, well within the range of even the smallest-batteried electric vehicles, such as the Chevy Volt. Another interesting data point is that less than 5% of the average American’s trips will ever exceed 100 miles a day, still within the range of cars like the Nissan Leaf. Getting the message out, however, has been difficult.

Thankfully, there are plenty of sites that are working hard to help people learn about this great new technology. For example, did you know that the Tesla Model S has the same lithium-ion battery capacity as about 16,000 iPhones?

Did you know that the federal government, as well as many state governments, offer incentives to help you with your purchase of an electric vehicle and even the installation of a home charging station? A new website, avev101.com, is dedicated to educating people and is backed up by AeroVironment, maker of charging stations for big companies, such as Nissan and Fiat, as well as public charging stations.

Browse through the site, read some interesting facts and figures regarding electric vehicles and charging stations, and then take the challenge. This looks like a great resource for anyone looking to learn more about electric vehicles and how they can fit into most people’s lives. Remember, the data shows that some 45 million households could make the switch to electric vehicles, and the only change they’d have to make in their daily lives would be to remember to plug in the car at night.
