Among the most important solar power harnessing nations like Spain, Japan or Germany, India decided to produce 1,000 MW of solar power by 2013.

Farooq Abdullah, the Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, announced that India will generate 500 MW of the power through solar photovoltaic cells and 500 MW will be solar thermal. “This is the first phase. In total phases will be 20,000 MW by 2022,” said Abdullah.

Sushil Kumar Shinde, Union Power Minister, said that the cost of the generated electricity would be lower in the future due to unification of both solar and thermal technologies. The government’s target is to generate 20,000 MW of solar energy, thus trying to become the leader in solar power generation.

This is just one viewpoint, but if India manages to generate all this solar energy by 2022, as they planned, solar power would be equivalent to one-eighth of the country’s current total energy requirements.

“This will reduce the rate if both are amalgamated and when you find out after amalgamation, the price will come just you see about four to five rupees… This is a step towards encouraging indigenous power generation, and as a mode of encouragement we are giving a mix-up power. The customary power will be implemented fully when in the coming two, three, four years the prices will reduce and there will be smooth power generation”, said Sushil Kumar Shinde.
