The World’s first ever certified smart grid integrated EV charger was presented at the 10th Annual Australia and New Zealand Smart Utilities Conference last week.

The proud makers are the Australian technology company- DiUS Computing’s subsidiary Percepscion. The charger, called Charge IQ, can communicate with smart meters within a network from utilities, by sending signals and adjusting the EV charging load based on the received request.

This allows electricity utilities to manage the pricing tariffs and to stimulate the customers to choose either high cost peak or low cost off-peak prices.

Zigbee communications standard, given by Victoria’s smart meters, provided certification to Charge IQ, making it the first ever certified electric vehicle charger. Charge IQ is also the only one used as part of the Victorian Department of Transport’s Demand Response Load Control Electric Vehicle Trial, ending in December this year. This trial has an aim to explain and understand the principles of converting fuel to electric vehicles.

The focus of the Australia and New Zealand Smart Utilities Conference was to introduce the latest water and electricity developments in the industry. The latest technologies are evaluated by around 700 industry professionals, who take part in the conference, exchange ideas and share experience.
