2013 Ford Focus Electric Awarded 5-Star Rating for Safety by NHTSA

ford focus electricFollowing in the manner of the 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid, the 2013 Ford Focus Electric has also been put through its paces in a crash test conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The car passed the test comprehensively with a 5-star rating.

Breaking it down, the electric car also rated 5 stars in all the categories tested, that is, the front impact test, the side impact test and the roll over test.

Worthy of note is the fact that this rating was better than that obtained by the gasoline-powered version, likely because the Ford Focus Electric has batteries which increase its weight. Either way, since it is not possible to get any better than 5 stars, that result was also good enough.

The Electric Ford Focus’ airbags use technology that undoubtedly ensure it gets the 5 stars rating in crash tests, and hopefully, real world crashes as well. According to Ford, there are both front and side airbags for individual occupants, with the driver-side airbag being deployed in a fashion that reduces impact on the driver’s ribs and chest.

The side airbags are also designed with special shoulder vents which help decrease the pressure on smaller occupants by staying open. In the view of the recent price reductions, the 2013 Ford Focus Electric is a sound choice for interested consumers.
