Tesla Model S is Outselling Everything Else in its Class

It’s all good news for Tesla Motors these days. Production of the Tesla Model S is in full swing, stock prices are trending upwards and, perhaps best of all, it’s profitable!

Another feather in Tesla Motors’ cap comes up after reviewing first quarter sales numbers for 2013. Tesla Model S is outselling everything else in its class. When we think of luxury sedans, perhaps the BMW 7-Series, the Audi A8, Lexus LS, or the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, we know we’ll pay somewhere in the range of $70,000 and up.

Tesla Model S does have price on its side, starting at just $69,900 before incentives. Granted, the most expensive Tesla Model S with all the options ticked could easily top $100,000, but the Lexus LS 460 RWD starts at $71,990, the Audi A8 starts at $73,095, the BMW 7-Series for $74,525, and the least expensive Mercedes-Benz S-Class goes for $93,255.

Sales numbers for the first quarter of 2013 are showing Tesla Model S has got what it takes to compete even with well-established luxury brands. First quarter sales for Tesla Model S were 4,750 units, Lexus LS460 sold 2,860, Audi A8 sold 1,462, BMW 7-Series sold 2,338, and Mercedes-Benz sold 3,077. In spite of brand loyalty, Tesla Model S is certainly giving these other brands something to chase.
