engopublicchWouldn’t it be great if we could walk to a spot where we can recharge our little electronic gadgets with clean energy, just like we would do with our electric car? Thanks to Volta Group this is now possible. Meet EnGo, the first charging station that powers mobile devices using solar and kinetic energy right in the middle of a University campus.

The world nowadays is quite different from what it was just a decade ago. If back then the batteries of our mobile phones could last for days because of the simplicity of the devices, today’s technology takes pride in the fact that it could remain charged for 10 hours. Of course, our mobile phones were used as phones only, and at best they had a simple camera and could run the “snake” (best game of all times, after Super Mario, I think). In comparison, modern phones are used as phones probably not more than 20% of the time, and for the rest there is internet, gaming, shopping, video recording, and one thousand other things.

Having this in mind, it is understandable that we will need to charge the devices every couple of hours, yet we still somehow cannot accept that this is the case. But while developments in energy storage are desperately trying (and unfortunately still failing) to keep up with advances in electronics, public charging stations, especially these that provide clean energy, will steal the thunder and save the day.

So, without further ado, here is EnGo, the show stopping portable charging station by Volta Group, which can supply power to 14 mobile devices at once, and serve as a free Wi-Fi hotspot, to keep the users entertained while they are waiting (see promo video here). What is more, the energy is generated via solar panels and kinetic energy tiles, which ensures that all power is clean and environmentally friendly. The station has USB ports, wireless charging pads and 10 cables to accommodate most mobile phone and tablet brands.

The first EnGo was installed at the Webster University campus in St. Louis. It not only provides power, but it also serves a much bigger purpose- raises awareness among students about renewable energy and sustainable living. All this comes at a total price of $20,000, which includes installation, maintenance and customizing to match the University logo.
