LG, a leader in the thin-film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) technology has recently announced the development of a 47-inch Full HD LCD panel. According to the company, it is the world’s most energy efficient television set produced so far.
Unlike other LCD TV panels, LG’s offers maximum brightness while consuming less energy due to its vertical single side LED backlight technology.
This Full HD 47-inch panel is able to achieve 400 nits of brightness with just 28 watts of power.
Currently, the backlight technology (in which LED lamps are placed vertically to a single side of the panel) is used only by this kind of LCD panels.
“Together with our business partners, LG Display has developed this LCD technology to continue our commitment to improving energy efficiency with environmentally friendly solutions,” said Shin Ho Kang, vice president and head of LG Display’s LED Development Department.
