While there are several devices which can be classified as home automation systems, not all are considered to be as useful as smart thermostats. They may not replace the need for insulation, however, installing on in a home is a cost-effective way of reducing heating bills by up to 20%.
This having been said, Nest has just released the Nest Thermostat E, a smart device that can go head to head with other premium products of the same type, while having a price tag of only $169. The company has essentially designed a product that is cheaper than others of its kind, as a result of cost savings that have been made in terms of materials, not functionality.
Despite its low price, the product is still capable of learning the user’s schedule, linking to his smartphone, as well as sensing when he is away. Furthermore, it is perfectly compatible with other Nest products.
However, the Nest Thermostat E does have a few downsides in terms of functionality. First of all, it does not come with the Farsight which displays custom information such as the weather forecast. Secondly, it is not compatible with as many systems as its more expensive original version.
The new Nest thermostat is a good choice for those who want a cheap device that is both easy to install, as well as effective at saving energy and money.
