The Japanese automaker announced that it will enter a custom Fuel Cell Vehicle in the final leg of the Japanese Rally Championship today, November 1. They gave no specifics but described the car to have a white paint adorned with silver, blue and black graphics and will come with mud flaps and lightweight wheels, as can be seen in the picture.
There was no word, either, about the performance specifications. The standard model, which may be named the Toyota Mirai, accelerates to 100 kph (62.1 mph) in around 10 seconds and has a range of 482 km (300 mi) and can fuel up in less than 5 minutes.
Of course it’s expected that the unit will be suited up with a roll cage, fire suppression, better brakes and upgraded suspension but what is not sure is if they will tinker with the engine.
With the recent downpour, the race promises to be muddy and ugly. The Shinshiro Rally kicked off yesterday and the results are still not available as of press time. So, better stay tuned to find out if the FCV has what it takes to slug it out in the mud.
