Mercedes Benz BlueZERO – A Trio of Green Concepts

mercedes-benz-concept-bluezeroMercedes-Benz announced the BlueZERO concept which will be presented at the Detroit Auto Show, in January. Three different models will be available, all based on the Class B model, including the fully electric BlueZERO E-Cell featuring a lithium-ion battery that offers it an autonomy of up to 200 km, a 100 kW electric engine (equivalent to 136 horsepower) and a maximum torque of 320 Nm.

With this concept, Mercedes explores the idea that people are more interested by a vehicle that can be charged quickly and run a short distance, rather than one that can take them to the other part of the country. BlueZERO E-Cell Plus is intended for those who want a hybrid, because it includes a small internal combustion engine, which acts as an electricity generator. The three cylinders engine comes from Smart and extend the vehicle’s autonomy to 600 kilometers.

BlueZERO F-Cell, the third Mercedes-Benz concept, is a vehicle that uses hydrogen fuel cells. The engine develops 100 kW (136 horsepower) and 320 Nm.

The three Mercedes-Benz BlueZERO concepts represent an experiment by the German manufacturer and it is fated to attract the public’s attention. Mercedes Benz wants to know what the people want: an “eco-friendly” car that can be charged quickly, autonomy, or more power. I guess I’d choose all three of them.

  1. Thank you for this post! I was unaware that Mercedes was introducing a smart car. This is very beneficial to people who want to go green for the environment, but still want the class of Mercedes.
