Panasonic Plans Ultra-Compact Home Battery System for Solar/Wind

Having solar panels around your home is not enough when you think you have to invest in energy storage equipment, and have a large hall of your house dedicated to keeping those batteries, with proper ventilation and humidity controllers. That adds to the costs of having a green energy resource right into your basement – and it adds big time.
Panasonic Corp, who recently took over more than 50% of Sanyo Electric’s shares, has a plan of marketing lithium-ion batteries for home use, and they want to finish that plan around 2011. “We’ll be the first to bring to the market a storage battery for home use, which can store sufficient electricity for about one week of use,” said Fumio Otsubo, president of Panasonic, in a recent interview with The Yomiuri Shimbun.
The storage battery is intended to medium-income homeowners from mainly China and India, who will also have the possibility to control their electricity consumption through a surveillance system that could output the information on a TV screen.
Otsubo also mentioned that the brands of Panasonic and Sanyo will be merged sometime in the future, and the home use battery research could also benefit the electric/hybrid vehicle industry, that is very avid of innovations and really needs big storage capacity.
