Volvo V60 Diesel Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle – The Only One of its Kind

Currently, the only plug-in diesel hybrid that you can buy is the Volvo V60, but you can’t buy it here in the US. It seems odd then, that Volvo would be showing the Volvo V60 at the upcoming New York International Auto Show, unless they’re planning something.

Some speculate that the planned increase in production, from just 1,000 last year to over 6,000 this year, could mean that Volvo wants to push the V60, or something else, into the US market. On the other hand, it could just be that Volvo wants to show off.

As it turns out, there are three finalists in the “World Green Car of the Year” Award, which includes the US-made Tesla Model S, the French Renault ZOE, and the Volvo V60. How does the Volvo V60 get into this crowd?

The Volvo V60 is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, which has a “Pure” mode, electric-only range of 35 miles. After this range is used up, the super-efficient i5 turbodiesel kicks in, giving the Volvo V60 around 120mpg.
