The Rise of Tesla’s Superchargers

The fast pace set by Tesla Inc. in the design, production, marketing and selling of its vehicle has brought the company to the eyes of most customers and investors, leading it to dominate the niche market of the electric vehicles.

In addition, the company has also planned to increase the number of charger and superchargers from currently 5,000 installations to over 10,000 by the end of the year. This will offer the opportunity to travel around USA and EU without limitations of either finding a charging station or of time.

What are the superchargers? Super chargers are battery chargers which, through the usage of high voltage and amperage (500 A), allow to charge a vehicle up to 80% under 30 minutes.

A boundary once believed just a dream has been breached! Now, according to the CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk, Tesla is working on designing and creating even stronger superchargers able to carry up to 700 kW/h in order to reduce the charging time to less than 10 minutes.

This will impact on the waiting charging-time for the drivers giving them the opportunity to alleviate the congestion at the charging stations reducing in this way battery-swapping and pollution.

This unimaginable dream might in the near future become reality. Indeed, the rapid increase in the amount of superchargers available across the globe would make Tesla the strongest enterprise in the Electric Vehicle (from hereby EV) automakers’ world able to guarantee a network of fast superchargers capable of cutting down the charging time and guaranteeing drivers the opportunity to travel across Europe and North America without having to modify their route to load the battery.

Finally, thanks to the improving technology, EV’s might soon compete with gasoline engines and offer the same or even better performances.

  1. Progress in battery R&D and supercapacitors might make superchargers unnecessary and existing chargers will charge batteries in 3- 120 minutes.

    • Have those inventions benn already developed? Do you have any link to it? I would like to read a bit more on this topic
