E-Mobile: Russia's First Hybrid Car Coming in 2012

Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov, one of the richest people in the world, has presented this week the country’s first hybrid vehicle that will be available on the market in 2012.

Dubbed E-Mobile, the hybrid car is a joint venture between the carmaker Yarovit-Motors and Onexim group (Prokhorov’s financial holding company).

The fuel-efficient vehicle is powered by a combination of gasoline and electricity. According to Andrei Biryukov, the director of E-Auto, the E-Mobile will cost about $14,500 (450,000 rubles).

The car will have a fuel efficiency of 67 miles per gallon and will be able to reach a top speed of 81mph.

Biryukov also said that the total investment will reach $200 million (150 million euros) for the creation of the first assembly plant and besides this, he expects 10,000 units to be produced every year.

Three prototype models were presented this Monday: a small cargo van, a two-door car and a mini-van with five seats.
