Argonne Researchers Splitting Water 10 Times Faster With New Metallic Compound
Posted by Mihai Sandru in Hydrogen Power on January 3, 2012
Due to its storage capacity, hydrogen has an enormous potential in the clean energy industry. Unfortunately, it is very hard to “master”: only setting apart single atoms costs a fortune! Luckily for us, researchers at the Argonne National Laboratory succeeded in splitting hydrogen molecules ten times faster, which is a lot cleaner and less expensive [...]

Wachsman's Fuel Cell Can Transform Various Fuels Into Electricity – Not Only Hydrogen
Posted by Ovidiu Sandru in Hydrogen Power on December 5, 2011
A new fuel cell that uses not only pure hydrogen to generate electricity has been discovered by Eric Wachsman, an engineering professor at the University of Maryland. It could be used in applications ranging from laptops to powering entire buildings, emitting only a fraction of the pollution today’s fuel-burning engines do. We’ve been used to [...]

Hydrogen-Generating Hybrid Solar System Invented by Duke University Researcher
Posted by Mihai Sandru in Hydrogen Power on August 10, 2011
Everyone knows photovoltaic cells are used to convert sunlight into electricity. Nico Hotz, a Duke University engineer has come up with a novel hybrid system that, according to him, could generate hydrogen by using sunlight. Instead of a standard solar-powered system, Nico Hotz proposes a hybrid option in which sunlight heats a combination of methanol [...]

California Supplementing Their Hydrogen Refueling Stations
Posted by Mihai Sandru in Hydrogen Power on April 6, 2011
The California Energy Commission (CEC) is betting its money on the hydrogen trend and by all appearances, it won’t be a waste: codes, standards and tests to make it possible for hydrogen to be commercialized as retail fuel. But most important of all, it will build three more hydrogen refueling stations.

New Polymer Material Can Store Hydrogen More Effectively
Posted by Ovidiu Sandru in Energy Storage, Hydrogen Power on March 17, 2011
A new type of container for hydrogen gas has been developed by a team of Lawrence Berkeley Lab researchers. The inventors say it can store much more hydrogen than older versions, like pressurized tanks or those storing the gas inside some kinds of metallic molecular chains.

NTU Scientists Use Artificial Leaves Technology to Split Water and Generate Hydrogen
Posted by Mihai Sandru in Hydrogen Power, Solar Power on February 12, 2011
A team of researchers at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) have recently set up a new laboratory (the first in Asia) that will be used to convert water into hydrogen fuel. As the scientists said, the development of this technology may reduce the cost of using solar power to the same price as using conventional energy sources.

Netherlands' First Public Hydrogen Fueling Station Officially Opened
Posted by Mihai Sandru in Hydrogen Power on December 6, 2010
The gas station also has a small-scale factory for converting the gas into hydrogen, which is stored in compressed form. The hydrogen fuel is fed through a special hose, just like ordinary LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) and then converted in energy by means of fuel cell technology in the cars.

Scientists Discover How to Extract Hydrogen From Waste Vegetable Oils
Posted by Ovidiu Sandru in Hydrogen Power on July 27, 2010
Waste vegetable oils have previously been used to fuel older diesel engines, but until now nobody succeeded to extract the hydrogen in them and to sequester the carbon dioxide with cheap and affordable technologies. Leeds University scientists have broken the ice and discovered an energy efficient method of extracting both hydrogen and carbon dioxide from otherwise disposable vegetable oils.
