New Solar Powered Polymer Makes Self-Healing Plastics
We normally use solar power to juice things up, and to create pollution-free electricity. Normally, we wouldn't think of anything else when it comes to energy usage, recycling, but scientists prove us there's much more to do with sunlight. Even recycling... in a way.
"Oyster" Device Harnessing Near Shore Wave Power
The Oyster is basically a steel oscillating wave surge converter. It is fitted with double-direction water pistons, deployed near-shore at depths of 10 to 12m. As waves activate it, the pump delivers high pressure water through a sub-sea pipeline straight to the shore, as seen in the picture above.
Extremely Long Platinum Nanowires Will Improve Fuel Cells
An article published in a paper in the Nano Letters journal, has described the use of nanowires to provide significant increase in both longevity and efficiency of fuel cells. These long platinum nanowires have been developed at the University of Rochester and could improve fuel cells into a commercially viable solution.
Charge Your Electric Car Battery in 5 Minutes
We all like our phone Li-Io batteries as we can charge them over and over again, with little performance loss in time. And the weight is also little. But it takes one hour or more for a phone, and when we use Lithium Ion in car batteries, it takes maybe 9 hours for a full charge.
New "Spin Battery" Storing Energy into Nano-Magnets
US Researchers from the University of Miami and Japanese researchers from the Universities of Tokyo and Tohoku invented a new type of battery that could revolutionize the way we think of a battery in all the aspects, from their charging speed to their capacity and discharging power.
USB Solar-Powered Battery Pack Unveiled at CeBIT
The Company called FSP came to CeBIT 2009 with USB green battery charger which uses solar panels.
SmarterShade Reduces 25% of Energy for Room Cooling
SmarterShade is a solar-powered smart windows that helps cooling down your home temperature in hot summer days.
Using Zinc-Air Batteries to Charge Your Mobile Phone
Based on Zinc-Air battery technology, a Japanese company called KFE, developed a power source for a portable phone charger.
BMW Saves Fuel With Pipe-Mounted Radioactive Device
In a world that tries to save more and more of its resources, BMW wants to make use of the car's heat to recover some of the energy lost by thermal means. It's just that they understood this time by being green means putting a radioactive thermoelectric generator in the car's tailpipe.
Liquid Battery from Molten Salts Invented at MIT
As always, MIT is coming with lots of interesting ideas that often represent really viable ways of improving our energy sources. This time, MIT has come up with a special type of battery never seen before.
